Energy: “blueEnergy” and its relevance for Pakistan

Posted in Energy by Rakesh on February 2, 2008

blueEnergy Group is a social entrepreneurship initiative and their mission “is to provide sustainable, low-cost energy to communities in need.” Their co-founders have also represented them in top-six contenders for CNN Heroes and were featured on Larry King Live as well.

They have done a few projects in Nicaragua and their current production capacity is meager 7.5 kW harnessed by wind and solar means but their idea is big.

Here is the link to their mission statement.

and quite interestingly, people from around the world are finding this idea very applicable to their countries, which as per their co-founder’s blog-post is reflected here:

So the questions I want you to be left with are:

  • In the wake of current power-crisis can something like this be done for the cut-off communities of Pakistan?
  • What if the rural/sub-urban communities become self-productive and self-sustaining for their energy needs?
  • Is there any action on these lines in Pakistan so far?
  • Are there any investors/NGOs who are willing to take one of these initiatives and move along?

Do talk back, if you have answers or ideas or more questions in this context.
